Join Us For The Trip Of A Lifetime
Why we invite you to join us on a multi-day overnight kayak expedition
People who do take risks generally make about 2 mistakes a year.
-Peter F. Drucker, American Writer
All of us at Paddle NC are paddlers. We simply love to paddle. It is our way of life and we believe kayaking is something worth sharing. Although it’s difficult to explain how we feel when out on the water, some of the things you will experience on an overnight kayak trip that make it so rewarding are the excitement and adventure, escape from day to day life, a chance for getting back to nature and a myriad of others. The feeling of freedom and nostalgia on a multi-day kayak trip is one of our favorites, and you’ll always return refreshed and renewed. Kayak camping has a way of recharging you, so when it’s time to rejoin to the world life is less complicated, it’s easier and the small stuff stays small. Most importantly, it’s fun and reminds you to enjoy life. We want you to come out with us on a multi-day kayak expedition and see why it’s our favorite way to be in the outdoors.

Gourmet food in the back country
Paddle NC’s owner has many years of experience working in the culinary arts and believes that eating in the backcountry should be just as good if not better than back at home. We specialize in ethnic cuisine such as Asian, Indian, Latin American/Caribbean, and more. All guests are required to fill out a pre-trip questionnaire so we can ensure your food experience is just as memorable as you’re paddling one. So please join us in a cheer for great food, great friends, and great paddling.
We do our best to cater to your specific food needs, but with all group activities extreme dietary restrictions may have limited options or require personal food preparation.
The Different Classifications of Paddling Trips Explained:
-ACA (American Canoe Association) Instruction based trips
These trips are for people looking for an unforgettable class. We offer kayak skills and assessment classes from ACA Level 1 and 2 Essentials of kayak touring to ACA Level 4 Open Water Coastal Kayaking as well as ACA Level 1 Introduction to Stand Up Paddle Boarding. If you are looking to teach in a club, scouting or a professional setting than you may want to take advantage of our ACA Level 2 Essentials of Kayaking Tour Leader through our ACA Level 4 Open Water Coastal Kayak Trip Leader classes. The trip leader classes are for people looking to guide or lead paddle trips, or learn more advanced trip leading skills, and must be proceeded by a skills assessment at the same level or above in order to participate.
We invite you to join us on one of our first, second, or third expeditions a new location.
For those of you who crave some adventure and like to be part of the team, you can’t go wrong with an Exploratory Kayak Expedition. Developing future multi-day kayak tours is one of our favorite parts of our job. It is also one of the most time-consuming. Each kayak trip we go on is extensively researched keeping in mind, rout, conditions, natural and local history and beauty. After all of the hard work is done, it is time for the fun part. All of our overnight kayak trips are guest active participation trips requiring all guests to help with the expedition, but on an exploration expedition, you get to play a more active role making decisions, learning and helping with navigation, and possibly making a few wrong turns. If you’re an experienced trekker who doesn’t want to put in the initial legwork and planning, or if you just want a little more adventure these are the trips for you. First timers, with the appropriate kayak skill level, are always welcome as we will all be exploring new waters and making new memories.
-Our Most Popular Kayak Treks
The name says it all. These trips are tried and true. Paddle NC has taken guests out on these trips multiple times and taken out all of the guesswork allowing for a less active role for our guests. Most novice and intermediate paddlers will feel more comfortable on these kayak trips. If you’re looking for more of a vacation and less of an adventure or instruction we suggest these trips. As with all of our multi-day kayak treks, we pay special attention to food and the comfort levels so everyone has memories that last a lifetime.
Our Different Types of Kayak Camping Trips Explained:
Our main goal is to have a great time on the water while staying safe and comfortable. Because of this, we offer different types of kayak camping to accommodate your level of camping comfort.
Multi-Day Base Camp Paddling Trips:
Paddle NC’s Base Camp Overnight Kayak Trips are the most relaxing for beginner campers. Less time is spent setting up and breaking down camp leaving more time for relaxing activities. All kayak trips start and stop form the same place, or a short ride away. This allows us to explore the surrounding area to a much greater extent and have more downtime back at camp. We also have the luxury of adjusting the trips to fit the guest needs without being hindered. Because all of these trips are based out of established camping area there is a better chance of having toilet and bathing facilities.
Boat or Van Supported Kayak Camping Trips:
If you’re looking to put in the miles but don’t want to paddle around a boat full of gear or have more amenities back at camp this our vehicle supported multi-day paddling trips may be for you. The camp will have to be set up and broken down every day, but everyone achieves a stronger sense of travel. These kayak expeditions follow a designated route with specific starting and stopping points, but all of the camping gear is taken by a vehicle leaving behind the burden of hauling the gear yourself. This is a great way to experience a real expedition without all of the hard work and allows a more luxurious base camp.
Self Contained and Backcountry Overnight Kayak Camping Trips:
When you’re ready to get away from it all and submerse yourself in nature, look no further. Trips like these are the reason so many of us got into the sport of sea kayaking. Feeling the sunrise through the mist on your face with an early morning start to beat the tide, or walking along miles of secluded beach are experiences you can never forget. Typically people think these trips require a bit more camping experience but we know how to do it right so going out with us is a great way to start. All camping and paddling gear is carried by the kayakers, including food and water, and often backcountry sites don’t have toilet facilities. As with all trips, you will be provided with a list necessary gear, and you will be in the hands of experienced guides so get ready to rough it and see why this is our teams favorite type of kayak camping trip.
Difficulty Levels Explained:
American Canoe Association Instruction Trips”
We just can’t say enough how much a little bit of instruction can help you in this sport. Paddle NC runs ACA trips from Level 1 (L1) up to Level 4 (L4) kayak trips, and Level 1 (L1) stand up paddle board trips. All multi-day kayak or SUP trips that are ACA based will be run at the specific skill level the class is designed for. For more information of any of our ACA classes, multi-day or not, please give us a call at and we will be happy to assist you.
Novice Level Trips
Our novice level trips are our easiest paddling trips. If you have very little paddling experience or are looking for a more relaxed trip these are good for you. We do allow children on these trips, but they should be able to ride in the front of a tandem kayak for hours at a time. The mileage is kept generally below 10 miles a day and conditions are kept to a minimum of difficulty level.
Intermediate Level Trips
Paddle NC’s intermediate level multi-day kayak trips add a bit more challenge. The millage is typically higher then the intermediate but it will usually range around 10 miles. Trips may be labeled as intermediate due to, higher mileage, more days in the trip, or slightly more difficult paddling. For an example, an intermediate trip may include a crossing or more difficult tidal situations. Beginner paddlers are welcome on these trips but it is wise to discuss the trip with us before committing to it. Participants should have some basic recovery skills and be comfortable in a kayak for extended periods of time.
Experienced Paddler Trips
In order to sign up for an experienced paddler trip it is important to talk to one of the Paddle NC staff. These trips can differ greatly and for some, the participants must be able to roll a kayak and paddle in ACA L3 conditions. These trips may require surf launches and landings, ocean paddling, open water crossing, the ability to deal with winds, and difficult tidal flow. Because of the difficulties these trips posses, they also are some of the most rewarding and can allow for the most beautiful and secluded locations.
